In November 2025, Emma Guy the Editor and Co-Founder of The Leicester Gazette won Women in Journalism's 2025 Georgina Henry Award. This prestigious award is named in honour of the former deputy editor of the Guardian and one of the founders of the campaigning group.
The Georgina Henry Award is an annual £4,000 prize supporting original and innovative journalism. The award is named in memory of Georgina Henry, the Guardian’s former deputy editor and a past Chair of Women in Journalism. It is designed to help women journalists develop bold ideas, new approaches, and innovative projects across all areas of the industry and is sponsored by Wiggin LLP.
Speaking about Subtext, Emma who will step up to be Executive Director of Editorial and operations said:
“Amid a landscape of misinformation, harmful online content, media bias, news deserts and increasing tensions between communities in the UK, Subtext is a media rights project that cuts through the noise. It will educate, amplify and campaign alongside those most affected by issues in their community, on a national platform.”
The judges for The Georgina Henry Award look for evidence of impact and genuine innovation, whether through new ideas, approaches or principles. The Judges of the Georgina Henry award, speaking about why Subtext won the award, said:
“Misinformation is one of the biggest challenges of our age, with a growing consensus among journalists that something must be done to improve media literacy, especially among young people and those from marginalised and hard-to-reach communities.
“This project does just that by providing practical and much-need solutions to improve understanding among the young and excluded.”
